DreamPower is an energy service that enables businesses to reduce electricity costs by replacing their variable energy bills with one fixed monthly fee that is guaranteed to be lower than their typical payment to utility company.
DreamPower achieves its goal by taking over customer’s electric bill as the company covers 100% of utility payments. In addition, DreamPower finances, installs, and maintains energy saving equipment such as LED bulbs, programmable thermostats, energy monitors and other efficiency improvements at the customer’s site.
The revenue for DreamPower is generated by the difference between the utility bill reduced with the help of energy efficiency installations and the fixed fee paid by the customer. In order to set accurate fixed fee, DreamPower utilizes data analytics and forecasting techniques that leverage recurring patterns in electricity consumption among company’s customers - small and medium size businesses.
The company was started at Batten Innovation Laboratory Business Incubator at Darden School of Business at University of Virginia (the i.Lab) in 2014.
Alexander Bazhinov started DreamPower during his first year at Darden School of Business at University of Virginia.
After graduating from the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia, with B.S. and Master’s Degrees in Management, Alexander started his career in a small start-up company that was working on waste recycling technology that would revolutionize the waste industry in Russia.
As the next stage, Alexander joined the newly formed international sales team of worlds’ largest nickel and palladium producer – MMC “Norilsk Nickel”. His primary interest was in the financial part of the global metal business as it allowed to learn the nature of operations throughout the company. Alexander spend over 6 years with Norilsk Nickel’s sales team, moving through various roles to become the Senior Financial Manager responsible for $10bln global sales of base metals – the centerpiece of company’s business.
To expand his experience from managing sales operations to overall business management, Alexander moved to global manufacturing conglomerate Sandvik AB where he took the position of Chief Financial Officer of the Russian subsidiary.
